Biden Steps back from Re-Election

I was discussing politics with a freind in a pub crawl. We often have differences of opinions on matters which leads to some interesting debates and logical counter arguments of each other. Something that some would say is missing in professional politics. He boldly declared that Biden would stand down.

What would Happen Next?

As we know, President Biden has announced he will not continue running for re-election as President of the United States. But to my freind, it became very obvious he could not recognise the difference in resigning from the campaign and resigning from the office of the president.

It seems obvious that a new candidate will need to be selected for the ticket and given his endorsement of running mate, that seems to be the obvious choice to put as the named candidate. This in turn would create a vacancy for running candiate for vice president.

Where does the confusion come from?

In Britain, our leadership and prime minister positions are changed once counted. It is considered normal for the results of a us presidential election to be voted and counted long before the change of the president. The election will be held in November but the winning president takes office a few months later – in January.
