Meta Facing Huge Privacy Fines

In the run up to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), myself and others were faced with the challenges of bringing systems into line. The industry was facing one of the biggest changes it had faced for personal data protection in many years.

GDPR allows the authorities to fine companies significantly for breaches of data processing and there have been some fines handed down by them which the big data players have been facing.

According to GDPR Enforcement Tracker Meta have collected the largest fines for data processing without legal basis.

In the latest round of problems to hit the company, Norways regulator gave notice that the the company needed to comply with privacy collection laws in July . They have not complied with this request and the regulator now intends to fine the company One Million Norwegian crowns daily (approximately $98k).
